Royal Air Force Typhoon fighter aircraft have operated alongside French warplanes in a joint strike on an subterranean weapons facility in Syrian territory used by the Daesh militant organization, as stated by the British defence ministry.
The facility, pinpointed through surveillance, was thought to be containing munitions and bombs, the statement said, and was positioned in mountainous terrain just above the ancient city of Palmyra in central Syria.
"Our aircraft utilized laser-guided Paveway IV weapons to strike a number of entry passages providing entry to the facility... initial indications indicate the strike was effective," the ministry announced.
There was no indication of any harm to civilians in the strike conducted Saturday night and every plane involved returned safely, the ministry further stated.
The British jets were assisted by a Voyager tanker plane.
